Shrine Re-Dedication Mass & Reception

Please join us on Sunday, June 9 for a special re-dedication of the restored Shrine of Our Lady of Perpetual Help.

For over 70 years, the Shrine of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, located on our Alfred J. Hofstede campus, has been a Northeast Minneapolis landmark. Since then, it has been a place where many come to pray, rest, and reflect. Over the years, time and outdoor elements have taken a toll on the old limestone structure. It was also concerning that the prayer area was not as accessible to residents who face mobility challenges.

Many people within the community had an impact on the restoration process. Wyndris architect, John Rova, helped develop a plan for repairs and improvements. He also generously created a beautiful watercolor rendering that clearly communicated his vision. Longstanding Catholic Eldercare friend, Dave Ryan, made a generous donation to the project and also led the fundraising charge that supported the restoration.

Several restorations were necessary in order to protect the structure from the elements. Other updates include the addition of a ramp and handrails make the Shrine more accessible for residents who use walkers or wheelchairs. By replacing benches and adding planters and shrubbery, the space has also been enhanced to offer visitors more privacy. To preserve the history and memories of this special place, the interior of the Shrine will remain the same.

This renovation would not have been made possible without the help and support of our wonderful community. We are so grateful and hope to see you on Sunday, June 9 for our Shrine Re-dedication Mass with Archbishop Hebda at the St. Anthony of Padua Chapel. Following Mass, there will be an informal reception with coffee and rolls on The Green. Everyone is invited so be sure you mark your calendars!
