Live your best life, by cultivating and maintaining healthier habits. Eating well and exercising are great ways to start. Diet and exercise are the cornerstones of a healthy lifestyle. Give your immune system a boost by eating a diet rich in whole grains, fruits, vegetables, and lean proteins.

Boost your mood with exercise. Walking, swimming, cycling, or any low-impact aerobics are wonderful ways to stay active. Keep in mind, you don’t have to exercise hard to gain the benefits. In honor of National Healthy Aging month, here are a few other ways embrace your golden years and age gracefully:

Practice Prevention

Stay on top of any health changes with preventive care. Regular well checks and screenings can help prevent potential problems and treat known conditions. Remember, one of the best ways to stay healthy is by diagnosing health issues before they become critical.

Get Plenty Of Sleep

Repair your body and restore your energy with sleep. The National Sleep Foundation recommends that adults should be getting about 7 to 9 hours of sleep per night. Not only does sleep help you feel rested and rejuvenated for the next day, it also has other health benefits like:

  • Enhancing your memory

  • Reducing depression symptoms

  • Improving your cardiovascular health

  • Regulating your appetite

  • Reducing stress, anxiety, and more!

Think Positively

Search for that silver lining. Life can test us in many ways, but positive thinking can be a mighty ally. According to the Mayo Clinic, people who are optimistic reap many positive health benefits like:

  • Increased life span

  • Lower depression rates

  • Better physical well-being

  • Better cardiovascular health and more!

Stay Engaged

Enhance your life by staying socially and mentally engaged. Make an effort to nurture and maintain relationships with the important people in your life. If distance is an issue, email, skype, FaceTime or Facebook are just a few ways to help you stay connected.

Keep your mind sharp by learning something new. Staying intellectually engaged can be as easy as reading a book, doing a puzzle, journaling, or getting together with a few friends. At Catholic Eldercare, we offer residents many opportunities to engage socially and intellectually through our various programs.
