Media Statement from Catholic Eldercare COVID-19 Diagnosis

April 21, 2020

The health and wellbeing of all who live and work at Catholic Eldercare is our highest priority every day. As COVID-19 spreads across our state, there are increased numbers of positive cases in the greater community of Minneapolis-St. Paul. As a senior care continuum provider in NE Minneapolis, we too have experienced coronavirus in our long-term care setting.

As of today, we have 8 lab confirmed cases of COVID-19 in our nursing home. There are no active cases of COVID-19 in our assisted living or independent living communities. It is with great sadness that we announce we have experienced 12 deaths since the virus was first detected. We grieve with the loved ones of those who have succumbed to this deadly virus and extend our prayers to them during this difficult time.

Catholic Eldercare enacted an aggressive action plan to mitigate the spread of this virus weeks ago. We are following the guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention and the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services. We are working daily with the Minnesota Department of Health to assure necessary precautions and best practices are being adhered to throughout our setting. We are maintaining the highest standard protocols and procedures to battle this infectious disease with a dedicated staff team that has exhibited excellent infection control practices through the years.

We are in regular communication with our residents, families and family representatives so that they have the most current information we have available for them.

As we navigate this challenge, we value the support we have received from the Minnesota Department of Health and are grateful for the tireless dedication of our staff to ensure safe, quality care, services and support for our residents.
